Product Design Engineer

The Product Design Engineer serves as technical lead for standard and custom E-Bike products while supporting relevant operations. The responsibilities include product design to meet customer needs, product quality, manufacturability, new product development, prototype builds, and testing.

A successful product design engineer will develop the basic design skills necessary to drive product improvement and will be integral in securing present and future business by consistently meeting or exceeding Voice of Customer requirements.

This position is critical to the development of the e-bike product portfolio. Candidate will need to work closely with manufacturing teams and customer project engineering to develop a robust design. As part of the design teams, candidate will also continue to support production and cost down activities to broaden his/her knowledge and feedback to future designs.

Tasks

• Responsible for the product design and testing of products in different technologies for current and future e-bike platforms

• Mechanical engineering focus on the complete product design

• Perform analysis such as Finite Elements Analysis (FEA) in the areas of relevant product design and proficient in using modern state of the art software tools for structural, modal, aerodynamics, thermal and coupled simulations   

•  Work with Customer Project Management, Sales and Manufacturing to ensure designs meet customer expectations regarding performance and cost 

•  Ownership of components from concept, design, testing, validation, and production release and support

•  Supports preparation of product costs, non-recurring engineering costs, proposals and documentation

•  Proactively supports of translating incomplete customer requirements into technical specifications and internal requirements

•  Ownership of design and documentation accuracy

•  Helps to drive target costing, value engineering and Total Cost Ownership analyses in close collaboration with relevant stakeholders

•  Create, coordinate and implement Engineering Change Orders

•  Participate in Value Engineering, generating ideas and executing projects

•  Assist in leading Quality and Design for Manufacturability improvements

•  Provide design engineering support for manufacturing site, collaboration with supply chain, vendor and manufacturing engineers 

•  Hands-on lab and prototype work

•  If required, actively supports the definition and implementation of standardized methods, processes and tools incl. global standardization

•  Continuously evaluate new technologies and design improvements to develop the most innovative product portfolio

Job Profile

• The degree is expected to be in Engineering or equivalent experience. Master’s degree or PhD in the field of Transportation Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Automotive Engineering, Aerospace Engineering or relevant is highly preferred.
  
• Experience in CAD platforms (preferably PTC Creo, Siemens NX, CATIA or similar)
• Experience in PLM platforms (preferably PTC Windchill, Siemens Team Center or similar)
• Creative and innovative; Entrepreneurial thinking and acting
